The NGK Spark Plugs Formula 1 Powerboat Championship series would like to formally invite each one of you to join us in beautiful Lake Havasu City, Arizona to celebrate the legendary London Bridges 50th anniversary. We plan to relive the glory days of powerboat racing while once again dazzling the shores of this desert city with the running of the beloved Lake Havasu Classic Outboard Championships! In conjunction with the month-long city-wide celebration, a variety of activities to commemorate this historical milestone will culminate with the heart-thumping, high-horsepower deck to deck racing excitement of the Lake Havasu Classic Outboard Championships on October 15-17, 2021 as the celebrations anchor event.

Other elements of this event will include rededication of the city’s famous London Bridge, historical museum display, beach party, vintage boat display, and the Lake Havasu Classic Racer Reunion – which will showcase Lake Havasu’s legendary drivers alongside vintage racing boats – to give contestants and spectators alike the opportunity to appreciate our sport, both in years past, and present. Race headquarters and free “front and center” racetrack spectating areas that allow fans access to the best racecourse viewing at the Nautical Beachfront Resort, 1000 McCullough Blvd. N, overlooking Thompson Bay – which long-time powerboat participants and fans will remember as the original championship event location dating back to 1964. We intend to reignite a spark of powerboat history in this long-forgotten arena and foster new growth for our sport.

Formula 1 Powerboat Racing presented by Anderson Toyota

The prestigious NGK Spark Plugs Formula 1 Powerboat Championship Series–known for its world class powerboat racing action–will be conducting all the powerboat racing related activities. The action-packed outboard racing held at the historic Nautical Beachfront Resort venue will entertain fans with three classes of fierce powerboat competition! This APBA sanctioned event with participating teams vying for the APBA North American Championships in both the Formula 1 and Tri Hull divisions while the APBA Western Divisional Championships will be hotly contested in the Formula Lights division. The combination of the Texas Tri-Hull roughneck racing, a full field of Formula Lights, and an action-packed double header Formula 1 showcase creating an unforgettable weekend, in which we will honor our past powerboat predecessors while making new memories with our current fraternity of participants. Festivities begin Friday morning October 15 with pit area set up, registration, boat tech inspection, and testing for all divisions. Saturday October 16th, begins bright and early as our full schedule of action on the water kicks off with a mandatory 8:00 am drivers meeting followed by testing/qualifying sessions, opening ceremonies, and all the racing action. Formula 1 awards to commence immediately at the conclusion of the days racing. Sunday October 17th begins with Formula 1 division qualifying at 9:00 am followed by 2 heat races prior to the opening ceremonies and continual racing throughout the day with the awards for all divisions at the conclusion of the days racing. Lake Havasu Classic Racers Reunion presented by Mercury Racing hosted by Bill Seebold

Many Havasu Classic stars from the past will be in attendance to revel in the excitement of this highly anticipated racing event. Our powerboat racing royalty will be treated to a special VIP viewing area for on-water racing activities, a special reunion social on Friday evening at the Lake Havasu Museum of History’s Mind of McCulloch Exhibit at the London Bridge Beach. The London Bridge Beach is the perfect location to enjoy the Beach Party showcasing all the participating boats along with our Vintage Race Boat Display. Past and present drivers will have the opportunity to intermingle and share stories while inspecting the boating equipment from their respective eras. At the conclusion of Saturdays racing activities, a pool side Happy Hour will keep our guest entertained while discussing and winding down the day. We encourage everyone to bring your memorabilia for display in the VIP area during Saturday and Sundays racing for some real bench racing! Sharing stories with your racing friends and the world via our live streamed show interviews we plan to conduct throughout the weekend. Registration begins Friday October 15th at the VIP area.

VIP Viewing Area

Get the best seats in the house within the VIP Viewing Area. Located at the Lakeside Terrace adjacent to the Turtle Grille at the Nautical Beachfront Resort, the VIP viewing area is situated between the official judges stand and turn one under 500 feet from the racing action. See 20+ Formula 1 boats come roaring to life as the Le Mans dead engine start is just to your right. Keep cool in the shaded tent area while enjoying food and drinks.

Friday Night Beach Party presented by Kicker Marine Audio

the Friday Night Beach Party from 4-8 pm at the London Bridge Beach. This gives everyone time to spend with the drivers and crews to learn more about them and the equipment they race. Autographs, pictures, along with fan appreciation memorabilia assures everyone will leave with a smile on their face. Vintage boat display, Mind of McCulloch exhibit, kids’ activity zone, food, beer garden, concert, vendors, and more! The Reunion Social for our past racers, families, and crew members will enjoy appetizers in your exclusive area in the heart of all the action, allowing everyone the opportunity to enjoy the museums exhibitions and displayed boats. This special event will be free and open to the public.

Mind of McCulloch Exhibit

Presented by the Lake Havasu Museum of History, this special exhibition features historical artifacts from the city of Lake Havasu, the McCulloch family, and McCulloch Engineered Products. Beyond the exhibition is the Kids’ Activity Zone, Race Viewing Area, Vendors, Food and Beer Garden. Friday 4-8pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. This special event will be free and open to the public.

Vintage Boat Display

Fans and racers alike will have the unique opportunity to view powerboat racings historically significant boats on display during the Friday Night Beach Party. The combination of these boats and the men who drove them will make for an entertaining family fun evening. Shifting the vintage boat’s location to the racing headquarters at the Nautical Beachfront Resort for both Saturday and Sunday’s racing action will allow additional viewing of these classics for all.

Pit Area Access

View the teams and their crews in action in the cold pit area as they prepare for racing. This unique opportunity is an eye-opening experience for any fan giving them access to the inner workings that go on behind the scenes.

Lake Havasu’s Thompsen Bay offers the perfect location centrally located between the Nautical Beachfront Resort, Lake Havasu Marina, the London Bridge Beach, and Rotary Community Park. This no wake zone allows for non stop racing action with spectator boat parking directly outside the race course safety zone on three sides.
